The Cuillin on Skye are regarded as the most desirable of the Munroes for the committed peak baggers and together form the eroded crater of a massive (and long extinct) volcano. The ancient rock has legendary qualities of grip while the incredibly tough 4000m of ascent / descent takes in no less than 22 peaks with 12 munroes.
It is often likened to Alpine routes in terms of seriousness of undertaking, fitness requirement, complexity to navigate (the rock is magnetic and the weather notoriously unstable) and precipitous scrambles and climbing that with modern climbing equipment will leave you marvelling at the skills of the Victorians that first explored these hills.

The Cuillin Hills
Local guide Mike Lates knows the ridge well having completed it more than 50 times and has now written a FREE guide to the Cuillin (ah! now there's a word all climbers like to hear) with some great tips how best to tackle this mammoth task. You can download it from here and should you want to employ Mike's talents his website is www.skyeguides.co.uk and he'd be delighted to hear from you.
