One of our Sherpa contacts (Lopsang Sherpa of President Trek & Expeditions ) says that according to contacts in Lhasa the Tibet Travel permit for overland tours in has been revoked by the Chinese government for the time being.

UPDATE > 27 August 2007

A few days later (as soon as the situation became normal in Tibet) the permit issuing authority resumed issuing permits.

However, it seems the Chinese government will stop issuing permits and visas for Tibet from Nepal again soon for security purposes relating to the upcoming Olympic 2008 games.
