Jun 2004 - RBS and Walkhigh help raise over £40,000 for the Outbound Trust

The Leicester Mercury reported:

Royal Bank of Scotland Leicester Telephony recently participated in the annual fund raising Call Centre Challenge , raising £1500 for the Outward Bound Trust.

The Outward Bound® Trust was started in 1941 in Aberdovey, North Wales, and has now spread through 18 countries and five continents.

The Trust has four centres within the UK - Aberdovey, Loch Eil (Scotland) and Eskdale and Ullswater in the Lake District.

Outward Bound® Associations are the charity arm of the Trust, and their aim is to raise funds to provide bursaries for young people, groups and individuals who want to attend courses. The courses provide important self-development opportunities for young people and help them to build a better life.

Leicester's Team, sponsored by Walkhigh.co.uk (Mountaineering Equipment suppliers - scaring the opposition before we even started in our printed T-Shirts) epitomised team work and enthusiasm, participating in the Challenge days' events at the Outward Bound Centre at Eskdale near Lake Windermere, which included abseiling, rafting, canoeing and a school sports day like you've never seen before!!; "blind folded egg-and-spoon", four person "3 legged race!!", "four people in a sack race", followed by a "space hopper race" sprint to the line!!

The 'La Manga' team looking the part

Our incredible efforts on the day allowed us to come top of the Call Centres across the Country, who participated across the three weekends of the Challenge. Easily Leicester's greatest effort in the history of the Event. The whole event raising over £40,000 for the worthwhile charity.

Importantly, the weekend allowed us to truly appreciate what we are giving young children the opportunity to enjoy, and brought home the benefit of giving so generously. We saw several displays at the Outward Bound Centre showing the joy that is given to so many young people by this worldwide trust.

The Trust are entirely grateful for your support.
