Goretex have such a massive budget for marketing but I wonder sometimes if this may affect an independant outdoor journalists opinion as to whether the performance of a garment might actually be better in a different fabric.

We all make substantial decisions that may even affect survival chances in extreme circumstances on much of the magazine reviews. Yet time and again, clothing in eVent fabric, which in my opinion has vastly superior performance, is lighter and more supple often gets ranked behind less capable or more expensive competitors with deeper advertising pockets. Since I own (too much) technical clothing in both fabrics I feel equally qualified to share my opinion.

So, if you want a lighter fabric, that breaths incredibly well, hardly suffers condensation into a packable jacket that isnt overloaded with extra pockets and features that add weight and cost look no further than the eVent Quickfire Jacket by Montane - as reviewed in Trail magazine - read the review here (2Mb)

If you need a few extra features and dont mind the extra 170g the Montane Venture jacket in eVent fabric has it covered - the Trail magazine review of the Montane Venture jacket here (2Mb)
