Every six months or so, Pete, our salesman from Montane rolls up outside with the samples of the garments planned for the season after next. On goes the kettle and after a quick review and cuppa we settle into a serious 2 or 3 hours of looking at dozens of potential garments and their technical features and asthetic options.

His knowledge about the specific wind and water repellancy and breathability characteristics of each fabric is mindboggling but even more amazing is that Montane have, season upon season, improved the products and added ever more practical and well-thought out clothing.

The winter 2007 collection (or Cold07 in Montane-speak) has broken all records with regards to getting the styling to mirror the superb technical capabilities of the range and this has resulted in a flurry of great reviews in the press as Montane is starting to pressure some of the more mainstream brands into giving up their top slots on the reviewers result charts.

And to prove the point here are some more great reviews:

Country Walking Magazine

Terra Thermic - 2nd place

"Wonderfully comfortable. A perfect belt/elastic waist combo gives them the comfort edge over the Paramo. Leg zips provide venting and easy entry and the Tactel nylon outer fabric repels wind and light rain.

Full on winter walking pants, offering warmth and weather resistance yet breathe and vent well. Reasonably stylish for outdoor trousers"

Montane Quickfire Jacket

Performance 4.5/5
Value 4/5

"There are lighter jackets out there but none of the breathe as well and few are as thoroughly thought through.  An ideal alternative to the Superfly if you want to save weight, about 130 grms."

Adventure Travel magazine - 5 out of  5 for mens and womens jackets.

Men's Lightweight - Montane Atomic Jacket

"This could have gone in the mountain section. The Hood is fully adjustable and wired, fits into a tiny bag and the Entrant fabric works with a special coating and is extremely light. Lightweight mountain jacket at a great price 5/5"

Women's Mountain - Female Super-Fly

"A well featured all round mountain jacket. Very light but robust with one of the best hoods. Pocket storage is generous inside. If the fit suits you can't really go wrong! 5/5"

GQ Magazine
