"I wanna ride my bike" so sang Freddy Mercury - but I reckon he never had a Montane Velo jacket judging by the photo of the numerous naked cyclists that adorns the inside of the Jazz album cover who were also clearly going for the minimalist approach but by an entirely different means.

If you prefer not to ride in the emperors new clothes (which is really not advisable in the British climate) then the Montane Velo is probably what you are looking for - an ultra lightweight weather resistant wind break that packs down to the size of an apple and at 125g weighs about the same too. It is perfectly suited to cycling with no hood to act as a parachute while 'afterburner' vents in the rear keep it from puffing up like a marsh mallow when you start the downhill. These same vents also work really well to stop a build up of clammy vapour inside the jacket when you are hot and working hard on the uphill bits too.

Fully recommended by me (okay, sure you might say I'm biased toward Montane) but also by other jounalists - read the full review here

or for the ultra-lightweight version:

"Its 125grms, it packs up into nothing making it an ideal jacket to stuff in your pocket "just in case".  The reflective fabric ensures you will be seen and the Pertex offers good protection from the wind and great breathability.  The fit is fabulous and the vents make for a pleasant internal environment even during a long ride.  At £40 its a lot of jacket for your money.  Quality is good add to that the great fit and Montane have provided one of the testers favorites."

If you were not lucky enough to have seen the original Queen fat bottomed girls in all their glory the first time around, here they are again ... bringing a whole new meaning to having a speed wobble !
