View Article  I wanna ride my bike
"I wanna ride my bike" so sang Freddy Mercury - but I reckon he never had a Montane Velo jacket judging by the photo of the numerous naked cyclists that adorns the inside of the Jazz album cover who were clearly going for the minimalist approach by an entirely different means.   more »
View Article  I measured my feet before ordering climbing shoes using your chart but my toes are tight against the end of the shoe. This is my first pair of rock boots so was wondering if this is normal ?
They should be 'skin tight' and certainly wont feel in any way like normal street shoes so standing around in them or walking round the house as you would to test a standard shoe are not the correct methods to confirm the fit.   more »
View Article  Sandvik dont only make saws... Oh no! They make Jolly nice metal for Crampons too
Once upon a time Swedish steel producer, Sandvik, were only famous in the UK for making brilliant wood saws. The steel was lightweight, incredibly tough and stayed sharp for ages... just what you need in fact in a good set of crampons. 20 years on and CAMP have taken up the gauntlet   more »

View Article  Brrr...its cold outside, YIPEE!
Minus five Centigrade, bright sunshine and a deep frost greeted me this morning as I looked out with early morning bleary eyes. It's the third day in a row we've had a perfect wintery morning and it always puts a spring in my step as the cold weather makes my fingers tingle while they adjust to the temperature outside.   more »
View Article  Why improve the perfect Crampons ?

With most manufacturers striving to acheive excellence with their products it's hardly surprising that very few items of hardware survive multiple seasons without at least one minor change of design to make them 'new and improved.'

Little wonder then that most magazine reviews are about how a product has evolved from some earlier less-worthy incarnation. So how much more refreshing it is to see that CAMP (www.camp.it) has produced a near perfect product first time round in the shape of the 12 point Stalker Crampons which although having been around for a while have achieved a best value award from Trail Magazine.

Trail Magazine Review of CAMP Stalker Crampons

"the best value C1 crampon on the market"

Every six months or so, Pete, our salesman from Montane rolls up outside with the samples of the garments planned for the season after next. View Article  8 lead climbing lessons you should know:
My first lead was fairly uneventful but involved a steep learning curve. The rock at Pontesford just outside Shrewsbury is my favourite spot for a few quiet Sunday climbs in an idyllic setting. Beckoning was 120 feet of Oak Tree Wall, straight up an obvious crack which is a bit greasy lower down in the morning but is a great warm up climb that sets the day off to a great start. I donned harness and newly acquired pristine nuts in anticipation of this being fairly easy lead having top roped it on a previous visit.   more »
