I have a pair of Apex Rock boots and need to get crampons to fit. Can you recommend any please?
The Kayland Apex is an awesome boot but they can be a bit tricky to get a really good fit with because of the fairly steep curved rocker toe sole profile which is particularly pronounced on the larger sized boots size UK 10 and upwards. This problem is not just confined to the Apex, any mountain boot with a heavily pre-curved sole which while efficient and comfy for walking is inevitably difficult to fit a flat an inflexible metal crampon to.
We have tested the Apex boots up to size UK 13 with Camp Ice Rider C1 and C2 bindings and the Cassin C1 and C2 bindings and can achieve a good stable fitting even so there remains a gap where the sole of the boot curves although this does not actually affect the practical usefulness or safety of these crampons with Apex.

Kayland Apex Trek and the Cassin C10
In our opinion the Apex is not suitable for C3 step-in crampons or any of the Simmond crampons we currently stock. I cannot comment about other brands as we have not had the opportunity to try them but would be happy to have comments from anyone that has other brands of crampons that have proven to work well with these boots.
