When the news of the Icelandic banks loosing billions of UK money came to light that was bad enough. But now the same nation has a volcano, Eyjafjallajokull (1666m / 5466ft - although this is probably changing as I write), thats wreaking havoc with our airspace too. While the first of these disasters hasn't had a direct impact on us just yet, the latter is causing us at walkhigh a few problems...
Most deliveries to customers are leaving on time by ground couriers and post as per normal. However some of our more distant overseas customers for whom air-shipping is the norm will experience some additional delays. Not only are couriers flights grounded but there is likely to be a backlog of work when normal flying does resume. Several of the couriers are re-routing parcels by road to hubs outside the UK where flying restrictions are not in force but this is adding a couple of extra days to the delivery time.
We are also starting to experience stock shortages on a few lines because the manufacturers cannot re-deliver top-up stock from overseas factories to the UK distributors who then in turn normally re-stock us on a weekly basis. For the most part this is not a huge problem because most freight is delivered by sea but it is starting to have an effect that we are hoping will subside once shipments get re-routed via road/sea that otherwise normally arrive by air.
We ask that you bear with us during this challenging period while we and our suppliers adjust processes to the forces of nature that under norma circumstances as outdoors people we love to witness. We're also keeping our fingers crossed that the eruption doesnt last 2 years as it did when the same volcano erupted in 1821 !
